Ok – so I am officially obsessed with this cake. Debbie Delardi from Cakes by Design outdid herself with this one! I am in love with it! Debbie based the design on the Save-the-Dates and Invitations by her Etsy designer Magnolia Papier!
She also made cupcakes which we inserted paper flowers from Magnolia Papier into!
(Notice the cute paper detailing on the blue cake pedestals – which I am also obsessed with!)
Now – here comes even more craziness! Their wedding will be on Ace of Cakes this summer! For all you cake addicts out there…I will post about the show as soon as I know the date!
Kendall wanted to surprise Mo with a cake made in the likeness of the robot that Mo has to use 3-5 times a week to perform surgery at John Hopkins! The robot is called the Davinci – here is the real life version of it:
And here is the cake:
It was so much fun and such a wonderful surprise for Mo!
Check out the cake topper for this one:
Her in her dress, he in his scrubs along with their doggie and the cute love birds from their invitations! ADORABLE!
There are so many more photos from this wedding…but I am figuring 4 posts is enough! We will have a gallery of their wedding soon on the main website as it was such a wonderful day!
Again – a huge thanks to Jennifer Hughes for the images and a big ole’ congrats to Kendall & Mo!
I will post once we know about the show airing!
Cheers!
Another great post Katie! The Wedding cake and Cupcakes are awesome. Congrats to Debbie from Cakes by Design on such beautiful work.
The Grooms cake is another matter. Calling that dessert a “Cake” is misleading. There is no cake in that “Cake”! Covering a hobby structure in fondant does not a cake make. TV has managed to turn any Rice Crispy, chicken wire, PVC pipe, erector set structure covered in fondant into a “Cake”. I’m glad the Bride and Groom were happy with the product they received, but as my Dad used to say “You can put your boots in the oven, but that don’t make them biscuits”
Now Now Earl – I had some of the chocolate cake inside of that thing and it was yummy…It was a really fun cake. Yes- TV has done some crazy things for sure – that is a whole other conversation! But they still have part of the top of the structure in their home as a reminder of that day – which to me is a super important. I am sure Mo would not mind saying so – but it actually brought a tear to his eye that his new wife would have done something so crazy for him. I try to keep things in perspective Mr. Frostings!!! 🙂 (You know I love you!)
For the cake purists out there….I understand Earl’s point of view…
From the have a fun, memorable, crazy cake point of view…I am a sucker for making all of my groom’s happy! Last week at Jordan’s wedding we had a purdue stadium that Debbie made as well…it was so fun where she made it look like thousands of spectators with round sprinkles..they ate that cake too.
I can attest to the fact that the cake inside the machine was yummy! They even came back to the Engineer’s Club after the wedding to hang out and ate the bottom of the cake!
Back to Debbie…she is doing two cakes for us this weekend! One on the Chesapeake Bay and one at the Arts Club of Washington! I am super excited as one of the weddings is our first legal gay wedding of the year/ever since gay marriage went legal earlier this year. I can’t wait to show those cakes! She truly is amazing and her cakes taste amazing as well (hard to find in the DC area unfortunately). I am truly obsessed with this cake and cupcake decor as provided by Magonlia Papier!
I think cake as art is a matter of perspective…
WOW! The detail on that first one is incredible – love the birds.
These are so fun and flirty. I love the fine details and color combination of the wedding cake. Great work on everyone’s part.
Hello there,
Actually, you are both right! Not only was this cake/structure/whatever you want to call it absoulutely delicious (peanut butter and chocolate heaven), but it was also a piece of art! The best thing? After enjoying every last crumb of this sweet, blissful masterpiece, we have cleaned off the base (made entirely of CAKE, not boots) and the marvelous robot now sits in Mo’s office for a daily smile. How’s that for green (and scrumptious)!?!? Our hats go off to Ben (of AoC) for his creative cake-molding and architectural talents — he gave us something special for our wedding and the days to follow!
And Debbie of Cakes by Design? I think it goes without saying that this woman is a cake goddess in her own right!
Best,
Kendall
That cake is amazing! I wonder how many shades of red the decorator went through in trying to creat it?! Either way, if it doesn’t put you in your hubby’s good books for at least the next decade then something’s not right! LOL!
wow! such an amazing cake topper! so much detail and precision…love the dog!
